“The Church Must Breathe with Both Lungs”: Thoughts on the Council of Florence

The Council of Florence (1438-1445) has cropped up a lot in my research on Neoplatonism and magic. While much good did come from the council and one of its goals: the bringing of Eastern Orthodoxy back into the fold of Catholicism is a noble end, there seems to have been some curious activity going on “behind the scenes.”

I have already written of the transmission of Neoplatonic magic, hermeticism, theurgy, and other occult ideas from Eastern Orthodox prelates who came to the West during the Council of Florence and after the fall of Constantinople.

What I want to look at here is the idea of using the Council Florence to kick start not the return of Eastern Orthodoxy to the Catholic fold but the creation of a one world religion.

Writing of the Council of Florence’s importance for some, Dennis Lackner writes, “The Council of Florence symbolized the aspiration for reconciliation between the two sundered halves of Christendom, Greek and Latin: a universal religious peace to achieve, in the words of Nicholas of Cusa, concordantia Catholica and pax fidei”

This language of universal peace and concordia sounds like the goal of the coexist movement as well as the religious dialogue between East and West that has occurred since the end of the Second Vatican Council, which has been especially important to John Paul II and Pope Francis.

There seem to be two ways of looking at the topic of Eastern reconciliation with the Roman Catholic Church.

The first is the idea that the Eastern bishops and patriarchs must submit to the authority of the Roman Catholic pontiff and thus return to the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church.

The second is that the Eastern and Roman Catholic churches merge into one body while maintaining contrary theological positions and with the pope as merely the titular leader or figure head of the Church.  This “union” would serve as the catalyst for the unification of all  religions into one pagan religious riddled with contradictions and worshiping a nameless “God” who offers defication or “Christ consciousness” to its adherents.

Paul Johnson, Vatican II, and The Greatest Crime in Human History

The Catholic British historian Paul Johnson is unquestionably a joy to read. However, despite being a firm critic of Marxism and Communism as well as even some aspects of liberalism and the Whig Narrative of history, Johnson, nonetheless, has some strong neoconservative streaks. While not a neocon puppet like Victor Davis Hanson, Johnson nonetheless has a decided Anglo and Americancentric view of history and is not afraid to create crude caricatures of nasty premodern cultures like Japanese Bushido when they surface in the 20th century, getting the way of Anglo-American world dominance.

I just came across an interesting comment in Johnson’s most famous work, Modern Times in which the historian, who by all accounts is a devout Catholic, wrote that the “greatest single crime in history” was “the extermination of the European Jews.”

This passage reminds me statements made by John Paul II to the same effect.

When visiting Auschwitz in 1979, John Paul referred to the mass executions of the Nazis as the “Golgotha of the Modern World.”

These statements made by Johnson and Pope John Paul II affectively say that the Holocaust is either worse than or just as bad as the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

The Holocaust then is not merely the “ground zero” of the new philosophy of postmodernism and deconstruction (yes, I know they begin the 19th century with Nietzsche and the Russian nihilists), but the new theology as well.

The new theology of nonjudgmentalism, open borders, anti-discrimination, and tolerance peddled by Pope Francis is rooted in the belief that the worst thing to ever happen in human history was not the crucifixion  of Christ for the sins of man, but rather the killing of large numbers of the Jewish people at the hands of an authoritarian regime.

Thus the new ethics of this new theology is the destruction of authoritarianism and the eradication of the Western civilization on which Nazism grew like the tumor.

While there is a clear connection between the theology of Pope Francis and the holocaust, it is unclear why Johnson would make such a statement.

Vladimir Lenin, Walter Cardinal Kasper, Pope Francis, and the Errors of Russia

It is common knowledge among well-informed Catholics that the roots of the divide between theoria and praxis in liberation theology are to be found in Marxism.

It is also further clear that the attempt to change the Church’s practice without changing her doctrine is the mo of many leftist clerics in the Church including Pope Francis.

Finally, it should be clear to the recent emergence of Marxist degenerates on the streets of America that the Errors of Russia spoken of by Our Lady of Fatima are alive and well.

With that in mind, I would like share a quote I found from Vladimir Lenin in Paul Johnson’s magisterial (but deeply flawed) Modern Times: “Practice is a hundred times more important than theory.”

Pope Francis and his crew know that to finally cripple the Church and the West as a whole that do not have to change the Church’s teaching: all they have to do is encourage the practice of degeneracy.

The Ruse is Up: Pope Francis and the Miracle of John Allen Jr.

It has been well established that George Weigel and other less luminaries in the neoconservative movement cloaked John Paul II in an ideological veil that presented him as the pope of American liberalism. It is also more than clear that the neocons cannot control the image of Pope Francis who clearly self identifies as a political, economic, and theological leftist.

To whom does the banner of papal biographer fall?

Enter John Allen, Jr. Identified by many Catholic conservatives as a “moderate” or even soft conservative, Allen penned, in 2015, The Francis Miracle: Insider the Transformation of the Pope and the Church. This book is very curious. In it Allen seeks to prove that despite the seemingly very left wing statements and actions of Pope Francis, the current pontiff is, in fact, a “centrist.” Allen argues that there are no real liberals in the leadership of the Church–that is, no high ranking prelate really wants to change the teaching of the Church. There are just those who want to change the application of the Church’s teaching. Here is the typical post-Marxist theological distinction between theoria and praxis or theory and practice. Of course, Catholic teaching will never really change; however, certain practices may be tolerable even though the Church defines them as evil.

The question then is: who is John Allen trying to fool? His book is not written for leftists Catholics who know Francis is on their side and who have no problem with Church teaching changing, nor is the book written for traditionalists who by 2015 had figured Francis out.

The book is clearly written to shepherd deluded conservative Catholics who “want to believe” that Francis is merely a laid back and slightly more liberal version of John Paul II.

It is difficult to believe that John Allen is dumb enough to believe that Francis is a centrist even in 2015. Allen, like Weigel before him, has clearly been brought in to shape the image of Francis and delude the masses of Catholics into following his degenerate teaching.

Also, Time Books, a US intelligence asset, published The Francis Miracle.

Who does Allen work for?

The Francis Files

As everyone knows, the greatest science fiction show ever was The X Files. Sci-fi geeks the world over were treated with as good as it gets television drama every Sunday evening for much of the 1990s. Agents Scully (a practicing Catholic in the show) and Mulder chased paranormal activity and alien abductions throughout the prosperous and immoral Clinton America in which many of us grew up. Perhaps the best thing about the X-Files was that it was only partially true: many of the episodes were based upon folk legends and only somewhat true real life conspiracies. Watching “Paper Clip” one of the highlights of the series, we knew that, yes, the United States government had smuggled in German scientists after World War II, but, no, they did not come to American to engineer alien-human hybrids. It was this ability to distance oneself from the spookiness that made that X-Files more of a Sunday cathartic relief than an actual lesson in government espionage. However, times have changed. With the advent of the internet and alternative gonzo journalism, we have learned that a lot of stuff in the X-Files actually was true. There are secret government camps. Members of the American political elite do worship giant thirty foot owls in the California woods. The Catholic Church has been infiltrated by some sort of homosexual modernist cult, and, yes, they finally have elected a pope—maybe.

Like Fox Mulder, many Catholics “want to believe” that Pope Francis does not really do the things he does. The reception of a crucifix sculpted from a hammer and sickle by a pope sounds like something from either a sedevacantist radio show or a militant Protestant website (probably the same website that suggests that George Washington was a Jesuit agent). Like watching the classic X-files “Fluke Man” episode one, should say to him or herself, “no, that’s not really true; the pope did not really receive a communist crucifix from Evo Morales just like there is not a giant fluke man living in the New York sewer system.” But, unfortunately, Pope Francis is very, very sympathetic to Marxism, and there are lots of weird things in the New York sewer system. Hopefully, the debacle of the synod as well as various cartoonish collaborative efforts with eugenicist neo-pagans was just Pope Francis trying to be extra merciful and nice, and the Holy Father is not a front man for a cabal of goat’s head worshipping globalist lunatics who like to watch animal light shows projected on St. Peter’s Basilica when they are not worshipping owls or decapitated livestock. The problem is that with Pope Francis’ continued stream of outrageous, scandalous pronouncements and acts, one does not have to be on the Dimond Brothers email list to suspect that Pope Francis maybe working with nefarious forces to bring down what is left of Christendom. Like the internet photos of the surface of Mars that seem to depict humanoid forms ambling about NASA surveillance equipment, most people want to believe that the picture of Pope Francis embracing a gay couple in Washington DC is really a forgery or some sort of light trick.

As recent comments from everyone’s favorite dissident German theologians (why is it that every evil idea in the past four hundred years has come from Germany?), indicate, Laudato Si, Amoris Laetatia and every scandalous and extra goofy interview that His Holiness has given are just the appetizers for the main course that is coming round the mountain. Like internet illiterate 90s kids waiting through the haunting opening credits of The X-Files, we can only guess what new horror Pope Francis has planned for us. However, while we have every reason to believe the contrary, let us hope for the best: Pope Francis is just a very confused poorly catechized modern man, and deep down inside our Holy Father knows that the truth is out there.
